Born in Indiana, Swope grew up in Jackson County and went on to study art in Europe. An avid art collector, he resided in Manhattan where he became a recognized artist of the period. The Collection contains a variety of artwork by well-known artists from around the world. The Library’s holdings include a selection of paintings by Swope and other prominent artists who painted at the turn of the century, 1800’s woodblock prints by Ando Hiroshige, to works by more recent artists.
